Fun filled queer wedding at the Seattle Aquarium - Bob and Vy
Bob & Vy’s wedding at the Seattle Aquarium may have been my favorite wedding of 2022, not for the couple or the venue or the food but because the people surrounding the couple were just the most amazing people.
The day started at The Edgewater Hotel on the Seattle Waterfront with Bob & Vy getting ready with all of their wedding party, and what a party they were! Most wedding parties are a great bunch (why would you have boring people in your wedding party?) but this bunch were some of the sassiest I’ve ever worked with. If you know me, you know I’m a pretty sarcastic guy and that can sometimes backfire on me when people don’t really get it. Thankfully this group did get it, and got it enough to throw it back!
After getting ready we headed out of the hotel and walked the waterfront over to the Seattle Aquarium. Bob & Vy’s wedding was in September so it was still warm enough to have their ceremony outside on the dock. They timed it perfectly so that as their ceremony was happening the sun was setting behind them behind the Olympic Mountains. It was really smokey that day so the sunset was a gorgeous firey red. Great for photos, not so much for peoples lungs! Thankfully people only had to be outside for the ceremony and could head inside afterwards.
First thing after the ceremony was the otters feeding time! I will never get tired of seeing the otters at Seattle Aquarium weddings. I think the otters know that when a big group of people come by they are going to get fed and so they get really playful and dart around all over the place playing with each other. I love that the aquarium staff give some info on the otters and where they came from etc.
After the otters have had their fill it’s time for the humans to have theirs. Dinner at the Seattle Aquarium takes place in the main hall with a view of what I call “the fish wall” where you can watch all sorts of fish swim around as you eat. Once dinner was over some beautiful heartfelt speeches were given and then it was time for their first dance. Being away from my family, I always get choked up during the “special” dances. Usually it’s because of the song choice but this time it was because of the moment. Once Bob & Vy had finished their first dance, Bob invited him Mom up to the dancefloor to dance to a song sang by his Dad who had recently passed. They had recently found this recording and his Mom and sister didn’t know. While it played a slideshow of photos with his Dad played on the wall. Needless to say there wasn’t a dry eye in the house, mine included.
The only way to follow that up was to have dessert and wow did these two put on quite the spread of desserts! Cookies, macarons, milk jugs. You name a dessert, there was probably a variation of it on this dessert bar. I wasn’t the only person to make a second trip past the table.
After an hour of dancing it was time to wind down, but of course this fun crew wasn’t going home, they were off to a club! They were kind enough to invite me but I had to get up early the next day and so I said good night and headed home after a wonderful wedding at the Seattle Aquarium.
